Staff Interview

iroha: Hi, there! Could you please introduce yourself and give us a little more information about what you do?

Daisy: Hi, I’m Daisy! I work in the Global Marketing team for iroha and TENGA. Since I work mainly from home, I spend the majority of my week at home in front of my computer screen.

iroha: That sounds like a lot of screen time. How do you make sure to stay on top of your self-care routine now that the winter season is currently upon us?

Daisy: That’s a good question. Especially in the winter, I think creating a realistic self-care routine is the most important thing for me. I don’t try to overload myself with self-care tasks that I know are not achievable because I really rely on my self-care routine during the winter.

iroha: Could you walk us through what your typical morning routine looks like?

Daisy: Sure! I like to start each morning with some yoga and light stretching. In the winter, I find that my body feels very tense so I like to try to warm it up before I start my day. Since I’ve started stretching every morning, I have definitely noticed an improvement in my flexibility.

Next, I have coffee while I make my breakfast. I have to drink coffee to start my day. My breakfast depends on the day, but recently, since it has been so cold, I like to keep warm by eating soup for breakfast. I like to eat miso soup with leftover vegetables, or Japanese rice porridge called okayu. Eating and drinking something warm for breakfast really helps me feel energized throughout this cold winter. Once my stretching and breakfast are over, I open my computer and get started on work!

Winter Self-Care Routine with iroha

iroha: Is there anything that you do during the day to check in with yourself for your self-care routine?

Daisy: I make sure to spend some time outside, even if it is for just a short walk. Even when the weather is cloudy, I like to take a walk around my local park. Since the weather has been so cold lately, I always make sure to bundle up before going outside.

iroha: That sounds like a great way to incorporate self-care into your daily routine. Is there anything you do after work to help you stay cozy during the winter?

Daisy: In the winter, after eating dinner, I always end my day with a hot bath. When I really need a pick-me-up, I go to the Japanese sento (communal bath) and sauna near my house. It’s so nice to zone out in the warm sauna and bath at the end of a long day. If you are visiting Japan, I highly recommend it! This experience can easily be replicated at home, with some bath salts and an iroha ukidama (no longer available for sale). I let my ukidama float in my bathtub to use it as mood lighting to set a relaxing atmosphere in my bathroom. It definitely sets the mood better than the overhead light! I can also use the vibrating functions of the ukidama to massage my lymph nodes and other parts of my body.

iroha: That sounds like such a relaxing way to end your day. Is there anything else that you do during the winter for your self-care?

Daisy: Yes, I make sure to spend time with people who make me feel good, and spark joy in my life. I like to spend my downtime exploring new places around the city with my friends. On the weekends, I like to try my hand at some more active hobbies. Recently I went ice skating which is the perfect winter activity in my opinion!

Also, since I do work for iroha, I can’t forget to mention that making time for self-pleasure is definitely an important part of my routine, and something I am very passionate about. Especially in the winter, it’s important to make sure to stay in touch with your body. And, just like stretching or exercising, self-pleasure increases serotonin, which has a very positive effect on my mood.

iroha

iroha: Overall, that sounds like a very comprehensive winter self-care routine. Thanks for taking the time to talk with us, Daisy. It’s great to see how you prioritize taking care of yourself during the winter.

Daisy: Thank you for talking with me. While there are many things that I am still thinking about incorporating into my winter routine, such as creating a time for personal reflection, I hope that you found this information helpful!
